Eaton Socon 6, Sawston United 2
13th September 2014 :: Cambs FA County League Kershaw Premier
The game against Sawston was seen as a must win, after an unlucky start to the season where for all of our dominance we haven't got what we've sometimes deserved. With current injuries and suspensions three new signings, namely, Glen Grimes, Richard Kay and Nathan Field started for Eaton in Midfield.
The game started at a quick pace and after a collision that left Andy Clare clutching a bruised knee Sawston broke away and took an early lead. It wasn't long however before Eaton were level with some good play down the right resulting with the impressive Scott Kingsbury finishing well. Eaton soon after took the lead with a well delivered corner from Andy Clare being finished at the back post by the returning Gav Batt. Before the break Adam Boothby put daylight between the teams with the kind of athleticism that makes him so difficult to play against, with the keeper favourite to win the ball Adam somehow managed to swivel in the air and send the ball into the far corner.
At half time Adam Westbury replaced Davis Watts in defence. Aware of recent slip ups the boys were keen not to let this get away and started the second half well, dominating possession well through Davies, Kay and Field. It didn't take long to extend the lead with Field releasing Grimes down the right who finished well over the advancing Sawston goalkeeper. Ben Cole was introduced early in the second half and put behind him the disappointment of not starting with two well taken goals, the second in particular a half volley that gave the goalkeeper little chance and put the game beyond Sawston at 6-2. Glenn Westbury also made his first appearance this year and we are all looking forward to him returning to full fitness.
Managers Kevin and Chris said we've put together a great squad here with quality and depth in all positions and after a shaky start were really looking to be up there this year.
