Cambridge University Press 1, Eaton Socon 2
22nd November 2014 :: Cambs FA County League Kershaw Premier
Eaton Socon travelled to Cambridge University Press (CUP) for a league game, looking to continue some recent good form. CUP have proved too good for many teams at home this year, and so knowing it would be a tough game the lads were mentally prepared and determined to keep the unbeaten run going. The game started quickly, and as has been the case this season we didn't get into the game quickly enough and found ourselves 1 down after not concentrating enough. Allowing CUP to run behind and finish well over the advancing Jan Belianski. The goal woke Eaton up and we started to use the ball better, adding a bit of quality to our possession. Andy Clare started to turn their defenders, and should have been rewarded with a penalty that the ref waved away. Gav Batt and Shane Moloney were seeing more of the ball and finding Scott Kingsbury, who won a free kick on the edge of the CUP box with 10 minutes of the first half half remaining. Scott duly dispatched the free kick into the bottom corner to take the teams in at half time 1-1. CUP started the second half quickly and committed men forward from the off. Despite the attacking intention they were unable to create a clear cut chance, due to the well organised defending of Eaton Socon. Having soaked up the pressure we were getting some good possession in midfield. From this Gav Batt played a neat one two with Moloney, that eventually released Kingsbury down the right hand side. His composure and quality found Grimes who had made a diagonal run behind him and he finished first time to make the score 2-1. Th game was tight afterwards and All of Eaton's defence deserve credit for shutting out the game. Four games unbeaten and onto Fenstanton for a quarter final cup tie on Saturday.
