Hardwick 5, Eaton Socon 2
11th August 2015 :: Cambs FA County League Kershaw Premier
Two goals in two second half minutes were enough to see Eaton suffer an opening day defeat against an impressive Hardwick team at Girton tonight. But it could have been such a diffrent story as Eaton dominated the first 30 minutes and took the lead on 24 minutes when great work down the right by Banbury and Maloney saw Ben Cole sweep the ball home from close range. Eaton should have doubled that lead when Ben Wilks nipped in on a poor back pass but could not turn the ball in from a tight angle. On 36 minutes however Hardwick equalised when a free kick from the Eaton left was swept home without the striker being challenged. The score was level at half time but within 3 minutes Eaton were 3-1 down when Heron beat the offside trap and then the unfortunate Micky Banbury turned home a cross into his own net. More indecision cost Eaton a 4th goal and Brown scored past Wale. But Eaton continued to battle and on 79 minutes Ben Wilks beat the offside trap rounded the keeper to make it 4-2. And within minutes good work from Gordine-Francis saw the ball fall to Ben Cole whose effort was cleared off the line and if that had gone in it could have been a different story, but Hardwick hit Eaton on the break and scored a 5th. A painful lesson for Eaton who in part played well, but in the end beaten by the better team.
