Eaton Socon 1, Brampton 1

16th January 2016 :: Hunts Intermediate Cup

Brampton booked their passage into the Hunts Cup Final with a hard fought battle at River Road. The game was a feisty affair with both teams giving their all in a typical local derby. Brampton had the better of the early exchanges but only had one effort of note but the Brampton players shot was cleared off the line by Gavin Batt. Eaton also only had one effort in the first period and this was a speculative effort from Kingsbury.

However the second half more than made up for the lack of excitement in the first, and it didn't take long for the fun to begin. In the first minute of the second half Eaton won a free kick on the left hand side which Scott Kingsbury whipped in. The cross eluded everyone and bounced past the Brampton keeper and into the net. Not totally deserved but what followed in the 50th minute was the moment the game changed and the momentum shifted towards Brampton.

The visitors were on the attack and the Brampton attacker moved into the box and was about to shoot when LGF came across and made a great tackle. However the referee saw it different and awarded a penalty. Scott Kingsbury protested and received a yellow, but then according to the Ref he allegedly stamped on the referees foot. The referee then showed Scott a second yellow and he was dismissed. Eaton were now on the back foot but as with last weeks game at Linton the 10 men battled well. To their credit they kept Brampton at bay and managed to hold out till full time.

The game then went to penalties and with Eaton missing three of their five Brampton moved on to the final. A shame but good luck to Brampton and we hope they enjoy their night in March. For us we now concentrate on the league and that top five finish.
