Whittlesford United Res 1, Eaton Socon A 1
20th February 2016 :: Cambs FA County League MPG 3A
Eaton Socon travelled the M11 to face a good strong Whittlesford side. A day that saw Manager Simon O'Connor and assistant Dean Foster pulling their hair out on the touch line as yet another day where Eaton Socon were made to pay for not being clinical enough in front of goal in a game that Eaton Socon totally dominated from start to finish.
Eaton Socon began the game playing brilliant football from the back four through to the front two forwards. Some great exchanges and passing moves led to numerous chances for Damien Chamberlain, Joe Kokokta and James Taylor but unfortunately the Eaton Socon lads just couldn't convert the moves to goals.
The second half started with Eaton Socon piling on the pressure having many corners and shots but not being clinical to finish at the crucial times. James Taylor going closest for Eaton Socon when he saw his thunderous shot cleared of the line by the Whittlesford defender.
Eaton Socon kept plugging away and finally got their reward when good play between the midfield of Troy Beavis and James Taylor found the pass to break Asa Johnson through on goal with only a defender and the Goalkeeper to beat. As in most cases through the season Asa slotted the ball into the back of the net, finally the goal that was so deserved had arrived to the joy of Simon and Dean on the touch line.
Eaton Socon didn't rest on their loral's and went in search of their second, many opportunities came their way but again the clinical finish failed to build on the lead Eaton Socon had. The final five minutes Whittlesford threw everything they had at an, on the day, brilliant Eaton Socon defence, although the lack of clinical finishing at the other end of the park was to prove costly for Eaton Socon when a Whittlesford corner was headed back across goal, came off the cross bar and back into the path of Elliott Canham who failed to catch it and the ball was stabbed home. Heartbreak for the all the Eaton Socon lads who felt they had won the game until the 88th minute.
Final score Whittlesford Reserves 1 - Eaton Socon A team 1
