Cambridge City Development 1, Eaton Socon 3

19th April 2016 :: Cambs FA County League Kershaw Premier

Eaton kept their quest for a top finish alive after a quality 3-1 win away at Cambridge City. This was a really tough away day for the Eagles but they came through with flying colours. On a lovely carpet of a pitch which regretfully was not very wide, Eaton struggled to adapt and it took a while for them to get out of first gear. However City made a few good chances and should have scored on 11 minutes but Milky Wale made a quality save from Wright. Wright also had an even easier chance minutes later but he skied a chance from six yards. Eaton though did get into the game and Shaun Flack had a great chance but fluffed his lines from close range. Ben Wilks then had a great chance but shot high and wide. On 31 minutes Eaton finally broke through when Kingsbury who had worked tirelessly, controlled the ball, beat the defender for pace and slammed the ball past Misson. A deserved lead that they took into half time.

However Eaton didn't get out of the changing rooms and Wright caught them napping and equalised after a good run. This knocked Eaton off their stride and it took ten minutes for them to settle again. The game however was drifting and Eaton were not really creating anything, but on 70 minutes a battling run from Kingsbury saw him lay the ball off to Wilks whose powerful shot from 25 yards flew past the keeper into the net. Wilks then scored his 21st of the season after a Pirloesc ball from man of the match Morris saw Byatt sprint clear and his pinpoint pass to Wilks was despatched and Eaton had all three points.

A great win that cements Eaton's position in fourth. However big game on Saturday when Wisbech St Mary visit River Road. Another massive game.
