Eaton Socon 1, Foxton 0

27th August 2016 :: Cambs FA County League Kershaw Premier

Eaton maintained their excellent start to the season with a hardworking 1-0 win over a good Foxton team at the MGS. Eaton sit in second place tonight after this victory and now go to Fulbourn on Tuesday night for the last of the midweek games, and any kind of positive result will see the Eagles go top. The game however was a battle from start to finish with Eaton starting well, dominating pocession but not really creating any chances. The game became a midfield battle with little or no action in front of goal and the first half ended all square at 0-0.

Eaton were forced to make a change as Fox picked up an injury and Dan Hardy came on to make his debut, and Hardy could and should of put Eaton ahead after great work between Whittingham and Gooch saw the latter square the ball to Hardy whose effort from close range was brilliantly saved. Gooch should have buried the follow up but the keeper again foiled Eaton, and the ball finally arrived at Banbury's feet but his shot went wide. Eaton were well on top but didnt seem to have a cutting edge. Wilks, Kay and Gooch were working hard to make things happen but alas it didnt seem like it was going to be the Eagles day, but on 73 minutes Lee Bassett picked up the ball on the right, drove into the penalty area and was then felled by the defender and the referee pointed to the spot. Bassett stepped up and despatched the penalty to score his 6th goal in 5 games. Eaton then managed the game very well and could have increased their lead, but poor finishing and good goalkeeping saw the score remain 1-0 and three more vital points for the Eagles.

Five straight wins without really playing well is a good sign, great day, great result. #ESFC
