Cherry Hinton A 1, Eaton Socon A 6
8th October 2016 :: Cambs FA County League MPG 3A
Eaton Socon A team had an away day to Cherry Hinton today. The game started brightly for Eaton Socon and soon had the first of many chances on the day, Jonjo Smith battled for the ball and played it over the full back for Cherry Hinton on to which Damian Chamberlain latched onto but when bearing down on the goal on this occasion he failed to make the most of the chance and was snuffed out by the defence. This was a sign of the way the game would be and the chances were soon flowing although the finishing left questions being asked at times. Jake Dexter had a fine game and this showed as he opened the scoring after a corner was headed clear and Dexter proceeded to arrow a shot into the bottom from the edge of the area. 1-0 Eaton Socon. Charlie Gough then got onto the score sheet after some smart exchanges with fellow strike partners Asa Johnson and Chamberlain a cool finish followed. 2-0 Eaton Socon. The game was already in Eaton's grasp before half time but after a few missed chances Chamberlain finally made his mark on the game with a fine finish from close range 3-0 Eaton Socon. Asa Johnson was causing mayhem with his pace on the attack and combined with Gough and veteran play maker James 'playboy' Taylor to give the Cherry Hinton back line a nightmare of an afternoon.
Half time and Eaton's tales were up and wagging. The manager Simon O'Connor made a substitution and Chamberlain was replaced with Craig Thomas upfront. Thomas made an immediate impact and his hold up play was excellent. Eaton Socon though were sluggish out of the blocks and struggled for any fluidity early on in the second half. Chamberlain got the A team up and running again as he finished off another smart move by the now more attacking Eaton Socon, 4-0 Eaton Socon. Ronnie Wheeler had another strong game and was replaced with the ever mobile Troy Beavis on the 60 minute mark. Luke Jakes was then put on at centre half in place of Wade Cockram, Jakesy's first touch has come under scrutiny in recent weeks but the big man made no mistake with this one as it sailed towards the opposite corner flag. Sam Drew was then Jake Dexters replacement as the Eaton Socon lads again lagged. Johnson was moved into his favoured central role and relished running at the back line, Eaton carved out a few chances with the pairing of Chamberlain who was put back on for Thomas and Johnson but to no avail. Eaton though switched off and allowed a fairly soft goal to be scored by the blunt attacking force of Hinton. 4-1 Eaton. This served as a wake up call for the lads and cue the changes and more goals. Veteran Taylor's legs began to run away from him and Big Ronnie came back into the fray. It was a début for Eaton new boy Jay who worked hard on the left flank and got his reward, he slotted home from close range to make it 5-1Eaton Socon. Beavis then made a barn storming run into the box to pick up on a loose ball and duly smash it into the bottom of the net. 6-1 followed closely by the final whistle.
A good day at the office for the lads but shooting practise at training seems to be required. Today's MOM was Asa Johnson for a his tireless hard work.
