Eaton Socon A 0, Meldreth 3
5th November 2016 :: Cambs FA County League MPG 3A
Eaton looked to continue their impressive extra time win last week with a positive result against a good Meldreth side this week. But unfortunately the boys were slow out of the blocks today and struggled to get to grips with the game. This showed in the 5th minute when Meldreth won a cheap corner and after some poor defending, the ball was poked home into the back of the Eaton Socon net. 0-1 Meldreth. The first half lacked any quality and the game went into half time with the visitors leading 0-1.
There were after changes at half time as Perri Ransley was replaced by Troy Beavis. The A-team altered their shape but it had little effect and the visitors went 0-2 on the 60 minute mark through another corner, this time the ball was floated in and a powerful header went straight into the back of the net. 0-2 Meldreth. Eaton Socon had a couple of brief chances most notably when Charlie Gough went through but his shot lacked conviction and was smothered by the keeper. Eaton Socon continued to go downhill as a free kick just inside the Eaton Socon half was floated forewords and keeper Elliott Canham spilled it into the net. 0-3 Meldreth. Elliott though redeemed himself 5 minutes later with an excellent double save which surely would have been a goal were it not for his cat like reflexes and prove a point attitude. Management made changes as Asa Johnson returned from injury came on for the hard working Craig Thomas and shortly after Charlie Gough was replaced by Sam Drew. Eaton Socon struggled to pass the ball about on a very windy day and more changes were made as Brett Redman was replaced by Luke Jakes. Eaton Socon rallied for the last 15 minutes and piled bodies forwards but the back line of Meldreth held firm. Amid more changes as Jonjo Smith limped off and Perri Ransley re-entered the fray again for Jake Dexter but to no avail.
End result Eaton Socon A 0 Meldreth 3.
A bad day at the office for the boys who had no conviction or want and no luck today. We roll onto Girton next week.
