Girton United Res 1, Eaton Socon A 1
12th November 2016 :: Cambs FA County League MPG 3A
This weekend Eaton Socon A team travelled a short distance to Girton who were having an impressive season so far. The Eaton lads started slowly and had trouble finding any fluency in their passing but after 15 minutes things were coming together and Eaton started to look threatening. Luke Jakes was an early casualty this week and was taken off for Perri Ransley, Jakesy was another name to add to a considerable injury list. Eaton Socon got a foot hold in the game and started creating chances, this showed as Wade Cockram put in a delightful ball in behind the back four of Girton's defence, the ball enticed the keeper the claim it but the pace of Jake Dexter got their first and he duly nodded home to the delight of his fan club. 0-1 Eaton Socon. The conditions encouraged football on the floor and Eaton obliged with some good football at times but the Girton back line held strong, half time arrived.
The second half started and Girton came out of the traps quickly and put Eaton Socon against it, the strike force for Girton had some excellent movement and this proved decisive as the pacer front man was played in one on one with Elliott Canham in goal and he finished well. 1-1. Eaton though didn't give up and rallied in the last 20 minutes as changes were made with Dexter being replaced by Troy Beavis and Sam Drew coming off for Liam Watts, Eaton Socon had one lady guilt edged chance as the pace of Asa Johnson got in behind the back line of Girton he squared the ball at pace to the wide man of Charlie Gough who placed the ball wide. Eaton Socon had tried today but Girton proved a good opponent and a draw was a fair result.
Still work to be done by management to get the Eaton lads back to their better way. Manager Simon O'Connor was pleased with the performance in the conditions but knows that the lads can play better. Well done Lads.
