Great Shelford 3, Eaton Socon 3
21st January 2017 :: Cambs FA County League Kershaw Premier
Eaton threw away a 3-0 lead at champions Great Shelford in a superb game of football. Also the champions showed why they are champions with a second half display that at times Eaton could not handle.
However Eaton dominated for the first 40 minutes, and took the lead in 14 minutes when a ball from Spavins found Wilks who cross found Bassett who made no mistake from five yards. Then on 30 minutes it was 2-0 when Fox received the ball with his back to goal and he turned a shot low into the bottom corner. 2-0 soon became 3-0 when a great counter attack found Bassett who beat two defenders and shot low past the keeper. Game over? not at all. Within minutes Shelford got in behind the Eaton defence and Impey smashed home to reduce Eaton's lead.
Half time and Eaton's message was to be tight and keep hitting Shelford on the attack. But no, Shelford kept coming and within minutes of the restart Spavins turned the ball into his own net and it was 3-2. Shelford were now dominating and it was only a matter of time before they levelled when a ball over the top found Impey who went clear and slotted home past Wale. The game became very open and both sides threw everything at each other trying to get the winner. Shelford had chances with Lambert, Kingsbury and Impey all going close. Up the other end Bassett put a great ball across the box and Shepherd could not get there. Then when Gooch crossed only a brace header from Upcott stopped Bassett from restoring the lead.
But 3-3 was the final score which only helps Hardwick. Feels like a defeat to be honest. But a point away at both Hardwick and Shelford isn't that bad.
