Eaton Socon 1, Great Shelford 2

4th February 2017 :: Cambs FA County League Kershaw Premier

Eaton Socon title challenge is all but over as they suffered a 2-1 home defeat to current champions Great Shelford. In a close game a goal from Nick Impey three minutes from time gave Shelford all three valuable points. The first half was a close dour affair with both sides not creating too much, however what chance that were created were created by the visitors and Eaton old boy Scott Kingsbury should have scored from the spot after a Spavins had felled Townsend but his penalty hit the post.. Eaton keeper Wale then saved from Impey and Townsend and the first half ended level .. Eaton had to make a change as influential Fox pulled up with a hamstring injury and with Bassett on the bench with an ankle injury Eaton's injury list was starting to mount .. on 72 minutes though Shelford finally breached the Eaton defence when good work from Lambert found Townsend who slotted home past Wale.. Eaton knew they had to throw caution to the wind and on 84 minutes a well worked corner saw a great ball in from Byatt and Whittingham scored with a far post header .. game on and it now became a real battle .. however there was always going to be a twist and on 88 minutes again good work from Townsend found Impey free and he smashed home to give Shelford the win .. so the dream is all but done .. still a semi final and final to come .. but a bad day
