Hunts intermediate Cup Final
Eaton Socon 2 Peterborough ICA 1

The team that has show so much potential finally delivered last night as Eaton Socon did the Hunts Cup double against Peterborough ICA. On a breezy night on a rock hard pitch both sides did their best to produce a final to remember but in truth it was a scrappy affair with both sides struggling in the conditions.
The early stages where cagey as one would expect in a final and ICA had the first real chance when Williams shot just dipped wide. Eaton then had their first chance as ICA failed to clear the ball and it fell to Kay who's shot broke a few tiles on the clubhouse roof. A dangerous corner from LGF somehow eluded everyone and when the impressive Fox shot at the keeper Eaton were certainly building up a head of steam so it was a little surprising when ICA took the lead. For the one and only time in the night the Eaton defence was caught napping and a bit of indecision allowed Williams to score. Eaton though didn't panic and within five minutes a good ball in to Fox was played off to Bassett who broke into the area.. the ICA tried to clear but only succeeded in kicking the ball straight at Bassett and the ball went into the ICA goal. Eaton then had the better of the last part of the first half and Morris, Kay and Spavins all had good chances .. but all square at half time was probably fair.
Eaton came out in the second half and did not really get going allowing ICA to dominate at times. However they never really tested Wale in the Eaton goal. Eaton though never really threatened and the game was a torrid affair with little quality.. but when Byatt was introduced to the game Eaton started to get a little more forward thinking and with man of the match Shane Fox working hard up top Eaton started to put pressure on the ICA back line. And it was always going to take a bit of magic for a team to win the game and a great ball from Joe Keech found Bassett who had run into the left channel.. and from a tight angle he hit a rasping shot over the keeper and into the net.. cue a nervous last five minutes but as in the whole game Morris and Kay battled hard to the final whistle.. and when that came this crop of Eaton players as did the Ressies had written the start of a new era in the clubs history .. the win is dedicated to our Chairmans Nev Coopers mother who died recently .. so on to May 1st and the Cambs League Cup Final .. the double is on !!!
