Hemingfords United 0, Eaton Socon 3

29th August 2017 :: Cambs FA County League Kershaw Premier

Eaton produced a good away performance to claim three important points at local rivals Hemingfords. After two defeats Eaton needed to respond and they did against a good Hemingfords team. The early exchanges were even with Hemingfords troubling Eaton with long throws and high balls into the box, however LGF and Spavins remained solid and soaked up the threat. On 16 minutes Eaton took the lead when great work from Stockwell found Dixon who drove past the United right back and he coolly finished past Ives in the United goal. Again Hemingfords came and produced a sustained period of pressure on the Eaton goal however they failed to capitalise and Eaton then grabbed a second when the influential Morris found Bassett with a great ball. Bassett beat two defenders and slotted by the keeper.

Two up at half time but United came out fighting in the second half and should have halved the deficit when they hit the bar. Eaton though continued to play on the counter attack and it looked like Thorpe had extended the lead but his shot crashed against the bar. But finally Eaton finished the game off when Griffiths closed down a clearance and Bassett raced clear and coolly finished to make it 3-0. Good away performance and three big points, Foxton at home in the cup Saturday, another big game.
