Cambridge City Development 1, Eaton Socon 5
16th September 2017 :: Cambs FA County League Kershaw Premier
Eaton finally put a side to the sword when they came away with a good 5-1 win away at Camb City. This was always going to be a tough game, but Eaton produced their best football of the season to pick up the three points. Eaton started brightly and dominated the early exchanges, and they thought they had taken the lead when a great ball from man of the match Morris found Bassett but his effort was ruled offside by the linesman. However not to be deterred Eaton did take the lead when great work from Stockwell found Dixon whose ball across the box found Bassett who tapped home from close range. One soon became two when a driving run from Rhys Thorpe saw him upended in the penalty area and the referee pointed to the spot. Morris dispatched the resulting spot kick. Two up and Eaton were playing some good football and it was no surprise when Eaton extended their lead further when a cleverly worked free kick between Bassett and Morris saw Bassett square the ball to Vale and he netted for his first goal for the Eagles.
Great first half but City came out battling in the second half and reduced the gap when Keech scored an own goal past Wale. City then had a very good spell and a clearance of the line and a great Wale save kept the lead to two. Eaton finally put the game to bed when the City keeper handled the ball outside the box, and Swain who had just come on as a sub smashed the ball home with his first touch. Lee Bassett had the final word when he rounded Archer in the City goal to net his second and Eaton's fifth. A great win that puts Eaton fourth in the table. Lee Bassett, Shaun Flack, Rhys Thorpe and LGF are now off to represent the Cambs League on Tuesday against the Peterborough League at Chatteris, good luck to those boys.
