Eaton Socon 4, Cambridge City Development 0
1st December 2018 :: Cambs FA County League Kershaw Premier
Eaton Socon won their 4th game on the spin in a game that saw last weeks hat trick hero Ryan Vale and Captain Joe Keech leave the field with first half injuries. Vale was replaced by Mason after 5 minutes and almost immediately the Eagles took the lead through a Lee Griffiths header from 6 yards after some good work from Ben Cole. Cole himself then added a second Eaton goal after 10 minutes to put the home side in command. Captain Keech was replaced by Ash Howard who deputised well throughout with Jack Hart alongside him at the heart of the Eaton defence.
The Eagles made it 3-0 and put the game beyond doubt after 15 minutes when left back Jacob Taylor fired a low drive past the Cambridge City keeper from 25 yards. As much as the Cambridge midfield tried to gain a foothold in the game the pairing of Dom Mason and Tom Baxter were always on top of the midfield battle ably assisted by Lewis Davis who competently handled any attacking threat the away team posed. Mason was unfortunate not to add his name to the Eaton tally after he struck a 30 yard effort forcing a top save from the City keeper. Callan Irvine continued to torment the City defence and it was no surprise when the best move of the game saw Ben Cole sweep home Eaton’s 4th goal of the half after 38 mins.
Half time signalled further changes as Nathan Arnold replaced Shaun Flack at right back and Blake Rivers replaced Irvine in the attacking third. Eaton controlled much of the second half possession and when Cambridge did break through the Eaton lines Shay Griffiths was more than a match in particular tipping wide a great strike from the City forward midway through the 2nd period. With 15 minutes remaining Kane Baxter replaced Jack Hart at centre half as the home side ran the clock down to record their 7th league win of the season capped with a clean sheet.
Eaton’s home fixture next Saturday needs little introduction as we entertain our Kershaw Premier neighbours Eynesbury Rovers, including several of last seasons Eaton Socon squad and former Manager Mark Spavins. We hope to see a big crowd for the derby as we welcome Eynesbury to the Mick George stadium for a 2pm KO. Up the Eagles!
