Chatteris Town Res 1, Eaton Socon res. 1

10th November 2018 :: Cambs FA County League MPG 1B

Eaton Reserves travelled to Chatteris missing some key players but came away disappointed with just a point in what was a very good performance. Sam Drew and Jamie Mcfee who were making only their 1st and 2nd starts of the season respectively slotted into the back four seamlessly.

The 1st half was full of good football with Eaton passing the ball around their opponents and creating opportunities. Alan Moore went close but his effort found the side netting follow me a neat one-two on the edge of the box. The back 4 of Drew, Barnett, Mcfee and Martin were well on top of the Chatteris attacking players and made sure White in goal was relatively untroubled. Kyle Morris was causing problems for the home defence and was brought down in the area in what looked like a penalty but the referee disagreed. Eaton continued to press their opponents into mistakes but couldn’t make the break through and went in goalless at half time.

Eaton didn’t get going in the 2nd half and were giving Chatteris an opportunity to get a foot hold in the game. Coles gave away a needless free kick on the far touch line and was booked for his troubles. The resulting free kick led to the award of a soft penalty to the home side for a shirt pull. The referee didn’t know who had pulled who’s shirt so the award of the penalty was harsh. Chatteris scored the resulting penalty to put them in front.

After a scrappy 5 minutes Eaton then got back to playing as they did in the 1st half, West, Coles and Hall controlling the midfield with some lovely football. For the last 30 minutes of the game Eaton were well on top and were creating chances and pinning Chatteris back in their own half. Kyle Morris gave the Chatteris left back an awful time, running at him and turning him inside out time and time again. It was one of these runs that led to the equaliser for Eaton as Morris and Fox combined down the right which ended up with Fox finishing from close range for his 5th goal of the season. 15 minutes to play and Eaton tried to find a winner but some good defending and some wayward finishing meant the game finished 1-1. Eaton remain unbeaten in the league this season and head into next weeks cup quarter final in good form.
