Eaton Socon 1, Hemingfords United 1
12th January 2019 :: Hunts Intermediate Cup
Eaton lost 0-3 on penalties.
Semi Final exit as Eaton pay the penalty
Eaton Socon first XI crashed out of the Hunts Intermediate Cup against Hemingford at the semi final stage on pens after 90 mins of football couldn’t separate the two sides.
A below par performance from the holders ended with the first three penalties being missed sending the away team through to their first final in four years.
Eaton took the lead when Lee Griffiths bundled home after good work from Ryan Whittingham on the right, cutting in and driving along the Hemingford byline before crossing for Griffiths.
Hemingford slowly grew into the game and started the second half as they finished the first in the ascendency. Their pressure finally paid off after Eaton failed to deal with a free kick lofted into the box that fell to Matty Wright whose volley bought the sides level. Both keepers made excellent saves in the final 20mins but it was Dan Porter in the Hemingford goal who became the hero when his three saves from three penalties sent Hemingford through to the final.
It was obviously a somber home changing room and a missed opportunity to reach a final but the young side will continue to learn and we go again next Saturday with Kershaw Premier League action returns as the Eagles host Cherry Hinton at the MGS.
