Alconbury 0, Eaton Socon res. 3

12th January 2019 :: Cambs FA County League MPG 1B

Eaton Socon moved to the top of the league with an excellent 3-0 victory over a tough Alconbury side.

The first half saw Eaton second best for large parts, but the introduction of Tom Hall saw Eaton gain more control of the game. Eaton were fortunate to take the lead just before half time when a poor corner found its way through the crowd where Andy Coles was on hand to bundle the ball home.

After some stern words at half time, Eaton came out in the second half with a much better shape and tempo. Within 5 minutes of the restart Eaton extended their lead when Joe Jordan headed home after Alan Moore’s good work on the right hand side.
Eatons second goal seemed to knock the stuffing out of a hardworking Alconbury side and they continued to dominate. Adam Boothby was introduced on the hour mark and his tenaciousness and hard work paid off when he forced the Alconbury defender into a short back pass. Boothby chased it down and showed his quality to poke the ball around the keeper and slot home to seal the victory.

Eaton saw out the game with ease and sent themselves top of the league after others results went their way. Next week Eaton return to Alconbury in their cup semi final where they will be looking for a similar result.
