Eaton Socon res. 2, Houghton & Wyton 0
9th March 2019 :: Cambs FA County League MPG 1B
Eaton Ressies continued their great form with a hard fought win over a very good Houghton side. In blustery conditions the exceptional work rate of Boothby, Whittingham and Moore set the tone for the afternoon, never giving Houghton a chance to settle. Then came the quality. Ryan Whittingham who was making his first appearance since returning to the club, picked the ball up on the left hand side, cut inside and fired an unstoppable effort into the far corner of the net form 30 yards out. 1-0 up and on top, Eaton had chances to extend their lead but Boothby and Whittingham failed to convert chances before half time.
The 2nd half saw Houghton come out determined to get back into the game but Kidd and Woodend were keeping Houghtons, and two of the leagues top goal scorers very quiet. After weathering a tricky 15 minutes, Eaton’s midfield 3 of West, Coles and Albone regained control of the game, nullifying Houghton and dictating proceedings from then on in. With 20 minutes to go, Moore got on the end of a Whittingham ball, out pacing the Houghton defender before expertly finishing to give Eaton a deserved 2-0 lead. Eaton saw out the game comfortably and continued their push for promotion with a very impressive all round display.
Next week Eaton travel to Hemingfords where they will look to close the gap at the top of the league
