Eaton Socon res. 2, Linton Granta res 1
24th August 2019 :: Kershaw Senior B
Eaton started well, in the 30 degree heat at river road, in an evenly contested game between champions of 1a v champions of 1b, and had much the better chances early on. Vale having his shot saved by the visiting keeper, before Blackall and then Jordon striking the upright. Just before the drinks break, the Linton Centre forward waltzed through, and scored past White, who was back from injury. Heroic defending from Howard, Kokokta Barnett and Harper blocking shots from Linton, and further fine saves from White kept the score at 0-1 until half-time.
Both sides had opportunities to score in the 2nd half, but it wasn’t until the 65th minute, that Eaton equalised. 17 year old Tom Nash on his debut for the club, put in a fine cross, that was met by Ollie Vale, who headed past the Linton keeper. Eaton rotated the squad throughout the game, so when Blackall and Moore entered the game for a 2nd time for the tireless Sammy Nicholls and Ollie Vale on 70 minutes it was all Eaton Socon.
Chamberlain came close, and further chances from Blackall, Dawkes and Jordon were all saved. The breakthrough came in the 85th minute. Micky Banbury on for the injured captain, Tom Hall found Darren Blackall in space, and he coolly slotted home to give the Eagles 3 points.
