Chatteris Town 1, Eaton Socon 2

20th September 2019 :: Cambs FA County League Kershaw Premier

Eaton Socon bounced back from last weeks defeat to earn a hard fought win over a battling Chatteris Town side.

Eaton were much the better side throughout without hitting top form and deservedly took the lead just before half time. Gary Ansell Carter broke the deadlock with a superb finish after being played through on goal. With the angle against him and the home keeper rushing out, GAC brilliantly lifted the ball into the far corner to give Eaton a half-time lead.

In the second half Eaton failed to capitalise on a bright start and were caught out when a long ball over the top wasn’t dealt with and the home side equalised. Eaton responded well and had opportunities to score before Jack Newland, with his fresh new aerodynamic eyebrows, burst forward from left back and fired home from the edge of the box, 2-1 Eaton.

The rest of the game was scrappy and Eaton should’ve extended their lead when Rhys Thorpe missed a header from close range. Rhys stated after the game he was worried about messing his hair up so didn’t make the correct contact. At the other end Galucci made a brilliant stop to deny Chatteris an equaliser after another long ball caused issues at the back. There was still time for the impressive birthday boy Jake Alderson to retire the Chatteris LB with some wizardry that Harry Potter himself would’ve been proud of and Eaton saw the game out to move up to 3rd in the league.

MOM Ben Hickling- After a week of being tapped up more than Piers Morgan did with celebrities back in the day,  Ben produced a superb display in the middle of the park.
