Eaton Socon res. 2, Ramsey Town 2
12th October 2019 :: Hunts Junior Cup
Eaton win 4-2 on penalties
Eaton are through to the 1/4 finals of the Hunts County Cup, after a great game of football at River road.
Eaton played some excellent football, to make it 9 wins in a row, this season, and Ramsey played there part going 2-0 up before the break, with some good counter attacking play.
It was all Eaton in the 1st half, and countless chances were spurned by the Eaton front men.
Moore shooting straight at the keeper, tree times in 10 minutes, whilst Vale struggled to hit the target.
Irvine and Moore gave the Ramsey full backs a torrid time on the flanks, and it was Irvine who was at the forefront of the assists, after creating a whole episode of the nutmeg files featuring there left back, before the Ramsey manager decided to swap full backs over. Irvine and Moore then continued their afternoon in similar fashion, terrorising the poor lads.
McGowan came close from distance, and the ubiquitous Tommy Hall, turned on a sixpence, to create another spurned opportunity for the unfortunate Ollie Vale.
Ramsey had one chance in the opening 20 minutes, and he took it well with a slide rule pass between Pyke and Howard setting the 9 free, and with only the keeper to beat made no mistake, placing the ball in the bottom left corner.
Eaton continued to press, and create chances, but the Ramsey keeper was in inspired form.
Moore did have the ball in the net, for Eaton after fine wing play from Irvine, but was adjudged offside by the linesman.
Ramsey continued to counter, and when the ball was launched upfield to give the Ramsey defenders some respite, only one man chased it down. As Howard tried to shepherd the ball out of the play, the Ramsey forward pirouetted in one movement, and descended on goal, giving White no chance, firing low into the corner. Half-time 0-2
The second half was more evenly contested, as the game became stretched. Eaton continued to press, and Ramsey continued to counter.
Vale one on one with the keeper to beat failed to score, and when the rebound came to him, he unselfishly passed to Moore who had his shot blocked on the line.
Moments later Ramsey could have wrapped things up, with the Striker sent clear, a good shot destined for the bottom right hand corner, was met with the overlapping right hand of White. Superb save which kept the eagles alive.
With 30 minutes remaining Heaps replaced Vale, and almost scored with his 1st touch, as he won the header, from Tommy Hall’s unselfish cross from a corner.
Dawkes replaced Kane with 20 minutes to go, and almost immediately impacted the game, as he was brought down for a penalty. The centre half who brought him down, reminded Dawkes of his age, which was nice. He needed no reminder, as before he’d got up 18 year old Irvine, had the ball in his hands. Irvine then dispatched the ball into the bottom right corner. 1-2
Game on.
Eaton threw everything at the the Ramsey defence including Kirk Kidd, on as makeshift 5th centre forward, and it was Kidd who nodded down to Heaps who controlled for Vale to make amends, and place the ball into the side netting from 18 yards in the 93rd minute. Great finish.
Straight to penalties.
McGowan stepped up first and made no mistake. Ramsey then scored. Heaps placed the 2nd. Ramsey then blazed over. Moore took the tird, and fired straight at the keeper. Dawkes sent the keeper the wrong way for the 4th, so when White saved the 4th Ramsey kick
It was left to the captain Tom Hall to hold his nerve and deservingly take the glory in his 17th year at the club.
