Match Report

Eaton 3-4 Newmarket

A much changed Newmarket side, ended the eagles winning streak, that stretched back to the opening game of the season.
Eaton started brightly, and Darren Blackall on his return opened the scoring, with a great finish. The referee then made a contentious decision to award a goal that appeared to not go over the goal line, after a fine save from White. After consulting the linesman who was 5 yards from the byline, he felt his position, some 20+yards from the centre of the goal, he was better placed. ( who needs VAR?)
Newmarket took the lead 5 minutes later as they were awarded a penalty for handball.
Eaton battled back, and Moore scored the equaliser in the twenty tird minute, after good work from Boothby and Irvine.
Moore capped a fine performance with the goal of the game, just before half time as he controlled on the run and finished from 25 yards out.
Newmarket started the second half quickly, and equalised within 5 minutes of the restart. They then dominated the next half an hour. White kept Eaton in it, with some fine saves, but eventually Newmarket found the net to make it 4-3.
Moore should have added to his brace, when sent clear by Coles, but was denied by the keeper.
The last 15 minutes Eaton had Newmarket on the back foot, who were forced to play the last 10 minutes with 10 men, after the same player dived, and then decided to argue with the ref within a 2 minute period.
Newmarket hung on, and claimed the  3 points.
We go again next week. 1/4 finals of the League Cup against West Wratting.
Hopefully we can eradicate the negativity coming from Kokotka household.
