Eaton Socon res. 0, West Wratting Res. 1
2nd November 2019 :: Percy Oldham Memorial Cup
Eaton suffered a second defeat in as many games, as they went down to a hard working Wratting side in the 1/4 finals of the league Cup. A heavily depleted Eaton side, which contained 6 changes from last week, due to a combination of injury, unavailability, people going on holiday next week, players watching the rugby, and call ups to the 1st team, had the majority of possession, but couldn’t convert this into chances. When they did they found a West Wratting goalkeeper in fine form.
Wratting scored the only goal of the game, midway through the 1st half, giving 40 year old Lee Bowskill no chance on his debut, from close range. Eaton rallied and could have replied straight away with Moore shooting just over the bar, after a clever pass from Kidd, marauding forward from centre half. Free kicks from Hall and Coles went close, and Eaton went in one nil down at the break.
Eaton started well and continued to dominate, but lacked in the final 1/3. Jamie Vale’s introduction gave the right flank a fresh impetus, and when he fed his namesake Ollie, he rounded the full back and saw his shot cleared off the line. Dawkes came on with 20 minutes to go for the impressive, but unfit show pony that is Rhys Williams, and created a chance for Tommy Hall, who missed from 8 yards, on the volley.
Eaton were camped inside the Wratting half for the last 10 minutes, but it wasn’t to be, and Wratting held on. 100% effort from the lads, and on to next week away to Isleham.
