2nd November 2019 :: Cambs FA County League Kershaw Premier

Eaton travelled to CUP expecting a tough game against a side that hadn’t lost so far this season and things were made more difficult  by the home side being strengthened by the availability of players whose main clubs from higher divisions were without a game.

Never the less Eaton controlled the game in the first 35 mins and should’ve been ahead but the chances came and went. Just before half time Woodend gave away a penalty which was converted by the CUP or Newmarket or Godmanchester Centre forward (Nobody really knows). This led to a frantic few minutes before the break where Eaton were forced to defend with Wale superbly saving twice to keep the score at 1-0.

The second half saw Eaton on top again and were rewarded when Rhys Thorpe  was put through on goal and he expertly finished on the half volley from an angle. 1-1 and game on!  Thorpe had another chance soon after and when it looked liked he had done everything right to put the impressive Eaton ahead, the effort agonisingly flashed past the far post so the scores stayed level. The non league 11 snatched victory with minutes to go with a neat finish into the far corner which was hard on Eaton who deserved at least a point in the day. Another sour note shortly after saw Davis sent off for a dangerous tackle only a few minutes after coming on.

An impressive display didn’t get the result Eaton deserved but plenty of positives to take from the game!

MOM - Rhys Thorpe who continued his goalscoring run and produced a excellent all round performance up front.
