Eaton Socon 4, Comberton United 2

21st December 2019 :: Cambs FA County League Kershaw Premier

A Christmas cracker at River Road saw the home side take the three points in an end to end game.

Eaton started the better side and were rewarded after 15 minutes when McGowan’s through ball found Ryhs Thorpe who finished for goal number 13 of the season for the Ginger Whinger! Ten minutes later and Comberton were level, firing home from the edge of the box after working a short corner well! The rest of the first half saw Comberton boss proceedings putting the home side under pressure from numerous set pieces but not converting their dominance.

The second and changes a plenty with Howard replacing the injured Taylor and Brown replacing the drunk/hungover Irvine. It started of with scrappy but Comberton were handed the lead when a Woodend free kick on the half way line travelled about 3.5 yards which led to Comberton breaking and taking the lead. A great response from from Eaton followed in the last half an hour and Jake Alderson (AKA Declan) sprinted through to fire the equaliser in off the far post, 2-2. Alderson turned provider 10 minutes later when he ran past three challenges before threading the ball through for Thorpe to score his second of the day and gave Eaton the lead! Comberton looked for an equaliser but it was Eaton who rounded the scoring off in style when Alex Shepherd raced through before finishing brilliantly into the far corner to seal the victory.

Another good victory and top effort from the Eaton lads before Christmas ended in a sour note when Alderson revealed to captain woodend that Santa wasn’t real!

Plenty of impressive displays again today but MOM went to Tom McGowan who impressed throughout from the centre of the park.
