Hemingfords United 1, Eaton Socon 2

1st February 2020 :: Cambs FA County League Kershaw Premier

Eaton travelled to old McDonalds farm to play football yesterday and came away with the 3 points.

The playing surface can only be described as a carpet, if the carpet had been run over by a combine harvester, set on fire and then used to wash 1000 dogs. But it was the same for both sides as they say! Eaton were battling their way through the game and had a few half chances before Alex Shepherd found the lively Cam Stump with a great through ball and Stump finished brilliantly to give the away side the lead with his first goal for the club. Hemingfords equalised ten minutes later when Eaton stood and let the home side get a shot away from the edge of the box, with the shot looping into the far corner. 1-1 at half time.

The second half was a scrappy affair until Rhys Thorpe picked the ball up on the right wing, cut inside and played a superb ball into the box that Stump couldn’t connect with but Tom Baxter arrived on the scene to poke the ball home from close range to give Eaton a deserved lead again. The Wootend combination at the back for Eaton meant there were no real scares until one of them decided to take up basketball in the last minute and gave a penalty away. The Hemingfords striker couldn’t have struck the  spot kick any sweeter if he tried but luckily for Eaton, Milky Wale de-misted his glasses, dived the wrong way and saved the penalty without actually touching the ball. Work that one out?!

Eaton held on for a deserved win to move up to 4th in the league for the time being. A shift was put in by everyone in pretty poor conditions but this weeks MOM was a shared award and went to Darren Woodend & Aaron Wooton who were both superb at the back. It was a close run thing though as the Hemingfords number 8 was brilliant for Eaton too ;)
