Eaton Socon res. 4, West Wratting Res. 3
11th January 2020 :: Kershaw Senior B
Match report.
Eaton Socon 4-3 West Wratting
Eaton recorded a fine victory against a strong West Wratting side, who looked much better than there league position shows. Wratting took the lead 10 minutes in, a free kick driven in with pace was met by a Wratting player 1-0.
It was soon 2-0 another free kick, driven with pace and wind assisted eluded everyone including White in the Eaton goal.
White saved it from being 3-0 on 20 minutes when he saved one on one.
Eaton then started to play and had a lot of the ball. Chamberlain blazed over from 6 yards, after doing all the hard work. Chamberlain though, made amends just before half time, a cross from the evergreen Micky Banbury, was met with a fine header 1-2.
After a tactical change, which allowed Irvine to get forward Eaton had much of the 2nd half, but it was Wratting that scored next, on the break making it 1-3. At this point, there was only one
winner.
The Eagles continued to press, with Coles, Kane and Roberts now dominating the midfield, and Irvine giving the left back a torrid time.
When an Irvine corner was nodded down by Kidd, and scrambled home by the impressive Heaps a comeback looked possible.
The comeback looked less likely when Dawkes was shown 2 yellow cards in 10 minutes.
Things got a little worse before they got better, as Coles shot from 40 yards and cleared the fence, and neighbouring gardens.
This Eaton side doesn’t lie down though and never knows when it’s beaten. Kokotka joined the party for the final 20 minutes for the impressive Josh Kane, enabling Micky Banbury to move into a more familiar role in central midfield. Kirk Kidd was sent forward, and every header was won by the big man, as Eaton pushed for an equaliser.
This came in the 89th minute. Irvine and Roberts combined, and Heaps made no mistake scoring his 9th goal in 10 games.
It wasn’t finished there, sensing blood Eaton went in for the kill, Roberts showed sublime skill to beat 2 defenders in the area before being upended by the keeper. The ball fell to Heaps who tapped home for what he thought was his hatrick, and the winner. The referee had already blown though and a penalty awarded.
A nervous 5 minute wait endured for young Callan Irvine as the keeper was treated for an injury and then eventually replaced.
18 year old Irvine showed nerves of steel, stepped up and dispatched his penalty in the 94th minute for absolute scenes at river road.
There wasn’t enough time for a 5th, so Eaton settled for a 4-3 win.
Wratting then took the defeat out on the away dressing room bin. 🗑
It wasn’t a fair fight as the bin, on its own took on 15 Wratting players and officials and promptly lost.
