Somersham Town reserves 1, Eaton Socon A 3

4th January 2020 :: John Ablett Cup

After 4 weeks without a game and the cup tie being cancelled yet again at sommersham we moved the fixture to the home of Eaton socon A's, priory Park. After some issues with kit and a  player not liking the selection and leaving, Eaton still managed a full 16 squad. First 5 minutes of the game and Eaton were looking untouchable, Tommy Collins was getting lots of joy down the left and managed to convert his second chance at goal with a nice left footed pass into the bottom corner of the goal. Eaton squandered at least three more chances in goal, best chance falling to Sam Drew who couldn't position his feet quick enough from 3 yards out and Tom Nash who couldnt quite get enough behind his header at the far post. As the game went on sommersham started to come back into the game and got a break away goal 10 mins before half time. 1 - 1 half time.

After a rejig in midfield veteran Mickey Banbury came on with half hour to go, and began to stabalise the team by winning the ball back passing to Tubby who played a lovely ball over the top to Sam Ward who lobbed the keeper from the edge of the box. The icing on the cake was a nice piece of football from left to right with a high cross falling to golden boots Dexter to volley first time into the goal.

The A's certainly made hard work of it, but deserved the win. Eaton have been drawn against Houghton and wyton in the next round. Man of the match goes to Tom Nash. Well done all!
