Comberton United 1, Eaton Socon 5
19th September 2020 :: Cambs FA County League Kershaw Premier
Eaton travelled to The Hines to face a Comberton side that had won their opening two games of the season and came away with a well deserved victory.
Eaton started fast and were ahead within 5 minutes when Craig Smith raced through to finish superbly into the far corner. 1-0 Eaton. Five minutes later and Eaton we’re down to 10 men after Jemale Mckenzie’s tackle was harshly deemed worthy of a red card. Up against it now? Not today, Eaton continued to boss the game and added a second through Smith as Comberton struggled to deal with the away sides attack. 2-0 Eaton. And then the 10 men of Eaton turned to 9 men after Rhys Thorpe, who to be fair had wounds that looked liked they had been inflicted by Wolverine, complained a bit too much to the referee and was sin binned for 10 minutes. Keep it tight before half time was the message for Eaton which was working well, so much so that a throw in from Tom Baxter found Ben Hickling who burst through two challenges before firing superbly into the far corner with the outside of his right foot to make it 3-0 to the away side.
The second half was more of the same and although Comberton had plenty of the ball, good the work rate and defending of the away side made it hard for them to create any clear chances. It was Eaton who added a 4th goal after the excellent Smith raced onto a through ball before getting the better of the Comberton centre half to finish superbly for his hat-trick. 4-0 and coasting when the referee awarded Comberton a penalty for reason still unknown. Eaton Keeper Dan Smith danced about on his goal line like Elvis and you could cut the tension with a knife 🔪 👀 , he managed to get a hand to the spot kick only for the ball to find it’s way into the net. 1-4. Eaton weren’t done though and the lively Kieran Mitham saw his effort saved after being put through by Thorpe. A 20 minute cameo from the evergreen Mark Franklin saw him roll back the years to cut in from the left and fire home after a superb assist from Christian Le at right back. 5-1 Eaton and game over.
A great display from Eaton, especially when playing with 10 men for the majority of the game, saw them gain their first victory of the season. 🦅🦅🦅
