Eaton Socon 2, Winslow United 0
13th August 2022 :: Spartan South Midlands Division One
Eaton played their first ever home game in the Spartan South Midlands league and it couldn’t have gone any better for them.
Strong from the start, Eaton dominated in every aspect of the game and should have been ahead before half time. The impressive Billy Roberts making his debut in midfield had a couple of headed chances from set pieces but couldn’t convert and Stevie Shaw saw his header come back off the crossbar when it looked like he’d scored. Nashy also came close after skipper Dom Mason threaded a through ball through to him, only be thwarted by the Winslow keeper. 0-0 at half time.
The second half saw Winslow start brightly but Eaton soon found the rhythm they had from the first half and started to dominate again. The lively Cal Irvine battled away down the left hand side before driving into the box only to be upended by the Winslow defender to earn the home side a penalty. Up stepped Nash Bang Wallop to give Eaton a deserved lead. 1-0 on 52 minutes.
The home side nearly let Winslow back into it straight away when they carved out their only chance of the game but the substitute fired straight at Griffiths for a comfortable save in the end. On 72 minutes the game was won, Whittingham who had been bought on to freshen up the front line, flicked the ball into the path of the little magician Jake Alderson who chested the ball down and unleashed an unstoppable half volley past the helpless keeper, brilliant finish, great goal. 2-0 on 71 mins.
The Eagles managed the rest of the game out comfortably despite going down to ten men when Mason was sinn binned for dissent after a couple of questionable decisions from the referee 👀.
2-0 at full time and a very impressive display from Eaton who secured their first 3 points of the season following last weeks opening day draw.
The Gaffer had his say and couldn’t fault any one of his players who all put in top performances in the searing heat. “The back 4 were immense like last week, hardly giving Winslow a sniff, midfield worked tirelessly and showed great quality throughout with the front 3 lively. All the substitutes made an impact as well which was pleasing. A good day and very pleased with the start we’ve made but plenty of room improvement still”
MOM today went to debutant Billy Roberts who was colossal in the centre of the park and covered every inch of the pitch with his work rate and tenaciousness and he showed top quality on the ball as well 🾠🦅
